A titanic figure in cinema and theatre, Ingmar Bergman’s career lasted for over 60 years. And now you can take a journey through the whole thing, as Bergman – lögn och sanning opens at Scenkonstmuseet. The exhibition collects material – film clips, manuscripts, costumes, photographs, notes and more – from Bergman’s personal and professional lives, and collects it all in a walk-through that moves in chronological order from the 1930s to the 2000s.

The exhibition was originally shown in Berlin, and has since toured in Los Angeles and Gent. In this incarnation, it’s been curated by the scenographer Anna Bergman, who worked with Bergman during his final years at Dramaten (and was even married to his son).

“Theatre was the backbone of Ingmar Bergman’s art. It was there he began his career and there he ended it. Between those two points, his career was characterised by the interplay between film and theatre. He used ideas from film in theatre and ideas from theatre in film. In his films, he also returned to theatre as a setting, to the opera house, to an actors’ lodge. Theatre was his world”, says Anna Bergman.

The exhibition runs until September.
