Summer is a time of festivals in Stockholm, and Kulturfestivalen is a part of the celebrations. In its 13-year history, it has grown to over 750,000 annual visitors and 600 programmes.
Each year, the festival has a theme, and for 2018 it’s Canada, as they collaborate with the Canadian Embassy to Sweden, Sveriges Handelskamrar and Canada’s Council for the Arts.
Canada is well represented in pop music at the moment with Drake et al,they’re less known for their contemporary circus, which will heavily featured here, with performances from the Artcirq Inuit indigenous group from Nunavut, inspired by the legend ‘The Land Of The Wolves’.
Events at the festival include world music, jazz, pop, rock, family activities, theater, art, dance, street art, and city walks. The events will be held at Gustav Adolfs torg, Karl XII:s torg and Skeppsbron. Jacobskyrkan is a new venue for 2018 and will host discussions and films related to Canadian culture.
Other artists scheduled to perform include Sabina Ddumba and Amanda Ginsburg, as well as Canadian jazz artist Emilie Claire-Barlow.
