Department Weekend

FESTIVAL: DEPARTMENT
“Our ambition is of course for Department to develop each year and get bigger and better. Therefore, we’ve been responsive and incorporating feedback from last year’s visitors and artists. Just to make sure it’s an even greater experience then the last one […] We’re looking for a number of things but most important is that we always first and foremost pick [artists] we really love, there’s really no other way to do it. We want people that are open minded and perhaps known for being diverse”. So said Fanny Larsson, who along with Calle Dernulf runs the music block party Department when we spoke to them in January. They’ve now confirmed the full line-up for the one-day fest at Slakthusområdet. ‘Episode 2’ of Department 2018 (the first was a show at Berns in April) will feature SolomunAnja Schneider,  Kornél Kovács, Magdalena, Anna KohlinParallax DeepDJ CleaDamien Eie and Johannes Brecht along with DJ sets from Todd Terjeand Jon Hopkins. They’ve also announced an afterparty at Kraken (next door to the main venue) with DJ HELLBella Sarris and more, open until 05:00.

May 26, 15:00-05:00, Stora Skorstensgatan

EXHIBITION: ARVIDA BYSTRÖM
Arvida Byström has established herself as one of the most distinctive and remarkably talented young artists around. As the internet bleeds into our lives to the point where we can’t remember a time before it, her art has found some of the most innovative and striking ways of exploring and depicting online imagination and the deep wash in social media. Her work also explores feminist themes and ideas of the female body, censorship of the natural body and challenges to ‘beauty standards’. An exhibition of Byström’s work is now coming to Bondegatan’s Gallery Steinsland Berliner, under the title Cherry Picking. One of the ideas in play here is the concept that we ‘cherry pick’ our online world, that as the algorithms react to our choices and how we behave online we create a world around ourselves that we enclose ourselves in.
Opens May 25, 17:00, Gallery Steinsland Berliner

CLUB: HIP HOP KARAOKE
Hip Hop Karaoke is a club that, as the name implies, a club that gives you the chance to karaoke through your favourite hip-hop songs in front of an audience of your fellow hip-hop fans. It usually takes place at Södra Teatern, and is run by Johanna Svanelind, Elias Einhyrning, Helena Sandahl, Ellen Sjöberg, Nima Barjami, Lisa Ambjörn, Fatima Osman and Chloe Lillo. You can learn more here, and if you’re hungry to show off your skills get yourself to Södra Teatern on Saturday.

AFTER-WORK: ÅNGBÅTSRYGGAN
Chilling in the summer sun on a boat and bar sounds pretty nice right? Ångbåtsbryggan is a bar and restaurant located on, yes, a boat, docked at Strandvägen. And Nöjesguiden are hosting an After Work there on Friday, with a performance from Norwegian up-and-comer Trevis.
May 25, 17:00-20:00, Ångbåtsbryggan
