Maya Lourenço is a DJ and techno/house producer who loves dancing and clubbing, and appreciates the finer points of great sound system.
Tell us more about yourself and what you do!
Right now I’m back to school after the summer and trying to find time for making music. At weekends you see me DJing around Stockholm or working as a sound tech. Also, I’m arranging parties with Samlingen, a DJ and club collective that I’m a member of. Sometimes you even see me driving the Stockholm subway.
What’s happening in Stockholm nightlife that gets you excited?
For me, it’s seeing so many new DJs playing vinyl. It has been a boom really. That’s awesome. A lot of girls too, even better!
What is your favourite night spot to go to when you’re not playing?
Under Bron and/or late night parties in some warehouse.
And if you went to a bar or restaurant?
I love Mbargo, they sell the best beer in town. If I wanna eat I love Ramblas or Grill.
Plans for the future?
I like what I do now actually. Maybe drive less trains and go on more DJ tours!
Look into your crystal ball – is the future bright in Stockholm’s clubland?
It looks really good! There are a lot of things happening in the scene right now.
I’m still hoping we will get longer opening ours for the clubs though. Stockholm needs more techno and that works best after three in the morning.
How can it get better?
Well sad to say, but if the people putting all their energy into making great club nights got paid, I think it would get A LOT better. Now, almost everyone is doing it during their “free time”. Still with very good results but I think they should get more money for it.
What else is going on that gets your motor running?
EVERYBODY is starting their own record labels right now. I lost count amongst my friends a while ago, but that’s really something awesome. A lot of good music is coming from Stockholm right now.
Do you feel like you are a part of some kind of movement?
Yes, I defenitely do. EDM has never been more popular. It has gone from total underground to something everybody hears, know about and like!
Tell us more about what to look forward to club-wise the next few months?
I’m really looking forward to Under Brons opening and their whole after-work calendar. I missed it very much. Also I saw that Berns had some really good acts coming up.
Maya Lourenço will be at F1-F6 Premiere at Fotografiska November 2nd.
