Modern Classics – Vibeke Slyngstad
Vibeke Slyngstad’s exhibition Modern Classics is dominated by elements of modernist architecture; straight lines, bright spaces and minimalist furnishings. The people in her paintings are placed in the centre of the rational architecture, thereby opening up tensions between man and architecure. We rarely see the faces of the people in the painting; they are either cropped or have their backs turned to us. The architectural surfaces and lack of connection to the inhabitants of the paintings conveys a sense of isolation; in effect man is subjected by architecture. Modern Classics will be on show at Christian Larsen Gallery until 16 December.
