Moment – Gerry Johansson
Swedish photographer Gerry Johansson’s classic black and white photography focuses on nature and the environment, typically depicting urban and rural cultural landscapes.  Johansson joined the Luckenwalde project (2009, 2011-2012) following a conversation in 1986 between himself and Dick Bengstsson when he was commissioned to do a portrait of the artist.  In Dick Bengtsson’s series of paintings is the diptych Hat and Cap Factory (1969), which has influenced this project.

This project focuses on the industrial town on Luckenwalde, south of Berlin.  In this project Johansson portrays the city’s social housing program; the factory owners, the Hermanns who were forced to sell the factory because of their Jewish descent; and the unique design of the building.  Moment – Gerry Johansson will be on show at Moderna Museet until 6 January.
