The new book *Naturligt Vin*, which gives more of a dry schoolbook vibe than that of a fascinating plunge into the world of natural wine, didn’t have me at ‘hello’. But after scanning the introductory text on the book’s back, phrases such as ‘punk scene of viticulture’ and ‘the most exciting new movement in the wine world’ caught my attention.
A Swedish book on natural wine, a movement born out of the distaste for the addition of chemicals in wines, as well as a bit of a rebellious ‘sod off” to the staleness of a conservative industry, is long overdue. But in *Naturligt Vin*, by publishing house Natur & Kultur, we tag along with wine merchant Emil Broomé and journalist Emil Arvidson as they travel through France, visiting a select number of natural wineries and their colourful custodians.
Not sure of what to expect from natural wine, apart from the very pleasant benefit of not getting such a massive hangover due to the absence of chemicals? We asked wine merchant and author Emil Broomé to list his five favourite Stockholm addresses for a tall glass of *vin naturel.*
19 Glas
Stora Nygatan 19
A wine bar with a large selection of natural wines, located in Gamla Stan. Personal favourites such as Jean-Pierre Robinot, Anne Marie Lavaysse, Bruno Schueller and Frank Cornelissen are available – and many of them per glass.
Volt
Kommendörsgatan 16
This Östermalm restaurant focuses on local, high-quality produce, all served up in a creative four or six-course meal. Volt aims to only work with wines from farmers that make their product without manipulation. Volt has a great wine list as well as service-minded personnel.
Tranan
Karlbergsvägen 14
A bistro in Vasastan, where the food is classic and the wine list always extensive. They offer a great variety in wines, and natural wines of great vintage often found among them. Sommelier Anna Vasseur is on stand-by to guide guests through the wine list.
DeVille
Roslagsgatan 6
A bistro that serves up well-made southern European cuisine. The wines available are increasingly from the natural wine category. Deville has a fabulous selection of Burgundy wines.
Spritmuseum
Djurgårdsvägen 38
The restaurant at Spritmuseum has just opened up under new management. Petter Nilsson, who recently returned to Sweden after a 14-year sejour in France, is a great chef and the wine list consists of natural wines throughout. Among the many gems on the list, there are wines by Jean Marc Brignot, Daniel Sage, Michel Guignier and Julie Balagny.
