From March 13-17 Stockholm will host an African film festival. With more than thirty-nine movies, CinemAfrica features film productions from seventeen African countries. Festival visitors will have the opportunity to view documentaries and short movies.

The 17th edition of CinemAfrica will, as it did in previous years, offer a different perspecitve and far from the stereotypical vision of the continent.

This year’s festival focuses on political themes, such as the problem of racism and the challenges women face in African society.

The festival is accompanied by a series of movie related events. Directors Akosua Adoma Owusu and Ng’endo Mukii, for example, will visit Moderna Museet from March 16-17 to talk about their work. Films by both will be screened during the festival.

The festival gates will open at 1800 on Wednesday March 13 with a screening of the Angolan movie The Great Kilapy, a director’s visit and a celebration afterwards with traditional music and dance.

Tickets to the ceremonial opening cost 150 SEK and are available for purchase at Södra Teatern Mosebacke Torg.

Screenings will be held in various Stockholm cinemas. Advance booking of tickets must be done through participating cinemas’ websites. More info here.
