Pizza Redux
A short subway ride from Stockholm’s inner city, in the area with the mysterious name Ingenting (“Nothing”) in Solna, lies a relatively unknown architectural gem created by none other than Gunnar Asplund, an architect known as one of the key figures in the 1920’s Nordic classicism and modernism. The listed building, a red-brick structure that used to house a scientific institution, has been revamped by architectural firm Guld. Its new tenant is the Second Home apartment hotel, as well as restaurant Asplund, run by chef Fredrik Eriksson.
The menu mixes Nordic cuisine with flavours from various far-flung places such as Tokyo, Istanbul and New Delhi. The signature dish, however, is a familiar acquaintance: the thin-crust pizza, but served with unorthodox toppings such as pulled pork and pickled onion.
