The Polar Music Prize is one of the biggest music prizes around, one “awarded to individuals, groups or institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements in the creation and advancement of music”. This year’s winners are the Afghanistan National Institute of Music and Metallica. There’s a lot planned around the award ceremony on June 14, with a day of talk and conferences at KMH booked in for the day before, as well as interview sessions with the winners.
And after the awards themselves have gone down, there’s an after party to think about. And they’ve just announced the line-up. The after-party this year will be held at Nosh and Chow on Norrlandsgatan 24, with three bands booked to play live. The rock bands Sudakistan, Vero and Rome Is Not A Town were chosen because they have some of the “energy and furiosity that made Metallica one of the worlds biggest bands over 30 years ago”. Along with performances from them, there’ll be DJ sets from Mackan Lindström, Chili Bendt & Fresteh Piltan and Jocke Åhlund & Luke Reilly. And even a ‘one of a kind’ event called Metal Karaoke.
If you fancy heading along, tickets are available for free (FREE!) in a giveaway at Dr.Denim tomorrow. 200 tickets will be given away at the Dr.Denim store at Gamla Brogatan 32 from 11:00 tomorrow. First come first serve, so get them in time if you want a ticket.
