Markus Aujalay, Swedish ‘chef of the year’ in 2004 and judge in several televised cooking shows, has flung open the doors of Tegelbacken, his third restaurant (aside from Winterviken in Stockholm, he also owns Fjällpuben in Åre).
Tegelbacken serves up medium-sized dishes with a Nordic-French twist, such as beef tartar with oysters, beets and watercress. There’s also a champagne and cocktail bar that makes a mean version of a Negroni.
We usually applaud a striking interior, but remain vary of the bold colour scheme and patterns – fuchsia, purple and turquoise mixed with floral pattern wallpaper – that can verge on kitsch.
