Día de los Muertos are the Mexican ‘Days Of The Dead’, a holiday that celebrates family and friends deceased, and a tradition enshrined as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO. According to the beliefs attached to the festival, these are the days when the dead return to earth, and practises include leaving the favourite meals of the deceased at the graveside as a gift.
This year the restaurant Kommendören are putting on their own celebrations for Día de los Muertos, with a special menu with traditional Mexican dishes, from Cajun pork, Crispy cod and Fried aubergine tacos to sharing style short ribs. They’ve also put together their own tequila and mezcal menu, to combine with the food. Kitchen head Richard Säfvenberg.says: “We use really good ingredients, and look forward to interpreting the Mexican kitchen”.
Kommendören’s ‘Día de los Muertos’ celebrations run between Oct 31 and Nov 4
