Stockholm International Poetry Festival
During five days towards the end of November, the annual Stockholm International Poetry Festival will take place at Södra Teatern and the Nobel Museum. The festival was originally an initiative in 1997 by Nobel laureate Tomas Tranströmer and is organized by 34-year old literature and art magazine 10Tal that states that the festival springs from a wish for poetry to take new shapes and directions by giving it a scenic expression.
Among the names present at this 18th incarnation of the festival are Abdellah Taïa, the first openly gay poet, author and filmmaker of the Arab world, transgender poet Julian Talamantez Brolaski from Brooklyn, Danish poet and critic Olga Ravn and Swedish artists like Rikard Wolff and Frida Hyvönen.
Expect a melting pot where the written word meets music, dance and performance to create something new.
Stockholm International Poetry Festival takes place between Nov 25-30 with the main event at Södra Teatern on Nov 27, see www.stockholmpoetry.se for more info
