GIG: TELLA VIV/ PHOGG/ SABINE WOMEN
Tella Viv were silent for a long time. But, just like some kind of indie-rock Santa Claus , they made the effort to give their fans something at Christmas time. The four-piece released a brand new EP, From The Cradle To The Kitchen Sink, a few weeks ago, and it’s a mix of adrenaline-rush guitar songs and massive-chorused pop. They play live at Bar Brooklyn this weekend, and are joined by dreamy psych-rockers Phogg and goth-folk act Sabine Women (possibly the only band to release a poem before they’ve released a single). It’s also a ‘pyschadelic cocktail festival’, so every band will be putting together their own drink which you can order during the evening.
CLUB: UNDER BRON
The big names are in action at Under Bron this Saturday. Omar S, Baba Stiltz and Nadja Chatti are in charge downstairs with Primrose, RastaNils and Leo Forssell on the upper floor. It’s open till 05:00.
FILM: A SILENT VOICE
Bio Rio’s Sunday morning Film Breakfasts are back, and this Sunday they’re showing Naoko Yamada’s A Silent Voice. Winner of the best animation prize at Japans Movie Critics Award, it’s a film about coming of age, bullying and childhood guilt. The film is shown in Japanese with English subtitles, and breakfast is served from 09:30.
CHOCOLATE: BAILEYS TREAT FACTORY
Christmas is officially the time of year when people do the most baking (unless, I guess, if you work as a baker), as people take the opportunity to gather their near and dear and put their creativity to work in crafting treats. And Baileys are looking to get in on that trend this Christmas, as they’re opening up the Baileys Treat Factory at PS Matsal. The Treat Factory is a playground for all things chocolatey and sweet. Visitors will be given the tools and ingredients to put together their very own favourite sweets, with help from Dorotea “Tea” Malmegård, a Stockholm-based cook and confectioner who has worked at the likes of Operakällaren and Lux. She’s put together three of her own recipes for sweets based around built-in Baileys, one truffle, one caramel and one fudge. And of course, visitors can take what they make home with them, to use as a future dessert or even as a seasonal gift.
MARKET: SÖDERHALLARNA’S JULMARKNAD
People getting into the Christmas spirit are getting a new place to hang out this weekend. Obviously, Christmas Market season is in full flow these days, and it’s getting difficult to walk down the street without someone trying to sell you a hand-carved wooden candle-holder and some glögg. But Söderhallarna are opening up one that’s got something a little different. Namely, in that it’s being held ten stories above Södermalm.
The Söderhallarna Julmarknad will be held on the Söderhallarna roof at Medborgplatsen between Dec 15 & 17, and feature many of Söderhallarna’s best-loved eateries. There will also be a number of other stalls selling Christmas goodies, potential gifts and more. Music comes from DJs Sotarn med vänner, Choco Canel and Pontus de Wolfe.
