Vulkano

vulkano

Girl-duo Vulkano is the raw and gritty offspring of cheerful girl group Those Dancing Days. Combining the best of pop and psychedelic rock, they create music that is both powerful and mystical. Drummer Cissi Efraimsson adds her expressive vocals on the tracks while Lisa Pyk Wirström works the keyboard and percussion. They refer to Vulkano’s music as “spiritual punk ‘n’ art” and say the main focus lies in not only the music, but also in visual expression. To learn more, we spoke to the girls in the lead-up to the release of their debut album Live Wild Die Free..

How would you describe your musical style?

Uncompromising, straightforward, energetic, mysterious, magical and fun punk music with hints of pop and rock. We call our music genre spiritual punk and art.

A grittier sound has replaced the TDD brand of indie pop, but what else is different about Vulkano compared to your previous work in Those Dancing Days?

Apart from the sound, we are a dissimilar set up with Cissi on standing drums and vocals and Lisa on keyboards and percussion. It’s rawer and less in many ways, but at the same time more maximalistic and extrovert than TDD. We sound like the wild and crazy little sister of Those Dancing Days.

Tell us know all we need to know about your new album.

We recorded Live Wild Die Free live in three days with Patrik Berger in the Ingrid Studio. Since we did it all live, it’s very direct and straightforward in terms of the sound. It’s ten songs about all kinds of spiritual, magical, free-spirit stuff. It will make people get closer to the roots of their souls and to aim for freedom.

Where in Stockholm can people find you?

People can find us strolling around Södermalm where we both live.

Where’s your favourite weekend place for good music and vibes?

Our favorite for good music and vibes is Indigo. Nice beer, nice people, nice music and nice vibes! Also we love to go to inspiring concerts but that could be wherever, as long as the bands are good! Gavin Maycroft’s Mother always bring great bands to Stockholm.

What’s the blueprint for the near future?

The future is music! Playing live, writing new songs and having a great time! We are going on tour in October as supporting band to Kate Nash in the UK and then after that we have a show in Riga with our friends The Haggish Moue. We’re also making a psychedelic short film that is built on our songs and it will be finished around November/December.
