GIG: ECHO LADIES/ WY/ STEVE BUSCEMI’S DREAMY EYES/ CAT PRINCESS
This one is a bit of a Weekender reunion, as Wy and Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes have both featured in this column before. So you should know what they are at this stage: very, very good. They’re joined at this Garageland gig by Malmö’s Echo Ladies, who have just released their debut single ‘Close To Be Close To Me’, a fuzz-laden showgaze dreamanthem, and Uppsala dreampop crew Cat Princess. It all kicks off at 2000 on Saturday.
FILM: RIO MUSICDOC
Rolling around in broken glass, near onstage decapitation, peanut butter, and some of the most powerful music ever recorded. No one dove into music’s black, nihilistic heart quite like The Stooges. Jim Jarmusch’s new documentary on the band follows them from their early days in the late 60s to their sulphuric implosion in the 70s. BioRio are showing the film this Friday as part of a Stooges-themed evening. Manuela Iwansson of Hurula will be DJing in the lobby before the film, and after the evening continues with a Stooges party at Bar Brooklyn.
ART: MUMINVINTER
Tove Jansson’s Moomin children’s characters are iconic, and this Saturday Millesgården is giving you the chance to step a little deeper into their world. They’re currently running an exhibition on Jansson, Lusten att skapa och leva, and as an extension to it they’re opening up the Mumimhuset. The Muminhuset will feature classic vintage toys from Atelier Fauni, who began to produce Moomin toys in 1955. It opens up this Saturday and continues until January, and entry is free to under-eighteens.
