GIG: FRITZ’S CORNER
As you might have noticed, it’s the end of the line for Stockholm live club Fritz’s Corner, who have decided to call it a day after 20 years. They’re not going out on the quiet however, and have arranged a massive two-day show this weekend at Kägelbanan. The line-up includes *deep breath* Hell On Wheels, Shitkid, The Fresh & Onlys, The Hanged Man, The Presolar Sands, Slug Bait, Hey Elbow and Bring Me The Fucking Riot Man.
CLUB: VHS VISION
Stockholm’s old-school digi-club is back, and they’ve gone up in capacity, moving from Bar Brooklyn to the bigger Debaser Strand locale. Nina, Highway Superstar and Neon Nox perform live, and as usual the club will be decked out in Atari-era video games and VHS-inspired visuals.
FILM: PRETTY IN PINK
Continuing the 80s aesthetic theme here, Bio Rio’s breakfast film this Sunday is John Hughes’ Molly Ringwald-starring classic Pretty In Pink. Tickets include a breakfast of a vegetarian breakfast sandwich, muesli, yoghurt, apple juice, fruit and coffee. Vegan options are available on request.
GIG: HAPPY MEALS
This weekend sees Scotland’s Happy Meals arrive in Stockholm, a band described as a “duo in thrall to minimalist Euro disco, who sing in French and are huge in the Russian underground scene”. Their sound flicks between chaotic disco and a more lush synth-pop, and they’ve got a reputation for making dancefloors move at will. Gothenburg’s Cheap Imitation support, and Anna Drvnik and Maternal Voice DJ.
OPERA: DRACULA
Look, at this point we don’t need to tell you what Dracula is. Fangs, blood, crosses, garlic etc, you know the story. However, you might not have seen the story told in opera form before, and that’s what Kungliga Operan want to remedy this winter. Composer Victoria Borisova-Ollas has created an opera piece based on the famous Bram Stoker novel, which tells the story of love and horror over 400 years.
