GIG: ANGEL OLSEN
Everyone knew Angel Olsen was good, thanks to her remarkable 2014 album Burn Your Fire For No Witness. But after she dropped a pair of new songs earlier this year, it became apparent that, holy fuck, she’s much, much better than good. ‘Intern’, the first of the pair, is a hazy synth-popper that drags you into the dark parts of your dreams. And if ‘Intern’ pulled the listener in, its follow-up, ‘Shut Up Kiss Me’, punched them in the face. A breakneck intense burst of raw longing, powered by guitars and Olsen’s incredible vocals, it was one of the best things we’ve heard this year. Both are part of My Woman, her new album, and you can hear her live when she comes to Debaser on Saturday.
