The art world sometimes moves in patterns that suggests that the rich have made it a closed shop, with paintings and pieces selling for seemingly random prices where the only consistent factor is the immense expense. Stockholm Affordable Art Fair aims to bring things to a more realistic level. Over 50 local, national and international galleries are participating and offering works of art, all priced between 500 and 50000 SEK (which is what passes for cheap in the art world). The organisers state that “We know that buying art can bring a lifetime of joy and inspiration, so we believe it is something that everyone should be offered the opportunity to experience and enjoy. The fair offers a fun day out for the whole family as we have a great range of free activities for all ages”.

This year’s fair has a special emphasis on young artists, and will feature the work of some of the most promising graduates from Sweden’s art schools and colleges, including Mirja Louise Leierth and Alexander Tallen of Konstfack and Matilda Enegren, Micaela Cignozzi, Karl Bergström and Talel Dayekh of Akademin Valand.

Stockholm Affordable Art Fair opens Oct 1 and runs until Oct 4.
