As you might have grasped from the refugee crisis, things in Syria are not exactly peachy at the moment. In an especially dire situation is the city of Kobane. Its infrastructure has been totally crippled by the war, with over 70% of the city reduced to rubble and there is a desperate absence of school and hospital facilities. If you’re wondering what you can do to help, Galleri Momangen and Rojavakomitteerna are running a fundraiser this Friday. The idea is: art for you, school bags for Kobane. The event organisers have estimated that the cost of giving a schoolbag complete with materials to a child in Kobane is around 500SEK. Therefore, you have the opportunity to purchase art from some of Sweden’s most exciting artists (a full list of contributors is available from the Facebook event page) this Friday for however many schoolbags it is worth in value. For example a painting may go for 1000SEK, or two schoolbags. The gallery is working entirely voluntarily on this event, with all the proceeds going to the cause.
