The Market Art Fair is part of Stockholm Art Week, a platform for Stockholm’s art scene. And in another step to stay on top as the leading fair for contemporary art within the Nordic countries, the Market Art Fair is moving to Liljevalchs on Djurgården, also home to the well-known spring exhibition. It also got shifted slightly in the calendar, taking place from April 4-6. That means it is no longer the same weekend as its indie little sister Supermarket, which is a relief for those of us who enjoy visiting both highbrow galleries and those less fancy (and expensive). Take a stroll through the fair to see works by artists from all over the world on display, to expand your art collection of just simply to get a sense of what is going on in the modern art world. We asked Joanna Sundström at Market a few questions.

Why did you decided to leave Fredsgatan and move to Liljevalchs?

The National Museum, due to their renovation, moved in to The Royal Academy of Fine Art. Therefore Market Art Fair needed to find a new venue. And we’re now very happy with the result of the situation. To move to a new venue is great and gives new energy to the fair.

What do you see as the prime reasons to visit the fair?

To visit Market Art Fair is a complete art boost! You will get to meet 39 galleries from the Nordic countries showing a fantastic selection of their artists that they represent. In the middle of the fair there is a champagne bar and a popup restaurant. If you go to Djurgården there’s lots of things going on during Stockholm Art Week. You can visit Stockholm Art Book Fair at Spritmuseum, the group show Monopol 14 at Biologiska Museet and both Waldermarsudde and Thielska has special programs. Then you can take the boat to Fotografiska, which is hosting PhotoMarket.

Do you have to be extremely wealthy to buy some of the pieces on display?

Absolutely not! Everything is for sale at the fair and you can find great art pieces for a couple of thousand up to a million Swedish kronor. And of course to look and be inspired is always for free.

Market Art Fair is on April 4-6. See more at www.market-art.se
