Stockholm’s top mod club, Hide And Go Seek, celebrates its 1 year anniversary tonight at the long-standing mod residence The Loch and Quay, where one can expect to see a devoted set of suave scenesters praising the very best of sixties music and style.

The club was kicked off by Carl Ivinger, who wanted to give the well-established scene a youthful boost. He recruited a few recognized movers and shakers to DJ at the club, which swiftly swelled and swept with it a new generation of nostalgia enthusiasts, which have now become loyal patrons of the club. Every month new faces appear to share a dance floor with a veteran gang of mods, and at the end of the night they’ve joined a movement that is still going strong half a century after its first incarnation.

“Ever since I was an apprentice mod DJ I wanted to run my own club. I began to look around for places and was offered to start Hide And Go Seek at Bonden Bar. The name came from Bunker Hill’s hit song from ‘62 which was big on the northern soul scene.”

“The intention with the club was to play a variety of different genres from the 50s and 60s, old and new sounds. Marielle Hasselblad and Joakim Holmberg joined the club early on and without their knowledge of 60s dance music the club wouldn’t have survived. We later moved down to The Loch and Quay where Scot James and Sven Hallberg joined us and the club started to cover the whole mod scene with its different sounds and styles.”

“We’ve had many guest DJs to provide the club with excellent music and an opportunity to expand on the variety of styles. The club attracts more than just mods; we get skinheads, rockabillies and all different sorts of people who are into the music or just want something new and different.”

“That people outside of Stockholm know about the club is just something that I never imagined would happen. Being a part of a subculture that is currently growing and the feeling that Hide And Go Seek is contributing in some way is a wonderful experience. Being with friends and likeminded people and spinning records is a fun thing to do! Hide And Go Seek is always evolving and will be alive as long as there are people loving the music and dancing to it.”

Marielle Hasselblad has been involved in the Stockholm mod scene for over a decade and is a dedicated member of the Hide And Go Seek team. “The whole experience has been more than what we hoped for! A lot of genuine people come to our club: record collectors, mods, 60s devotees, sharpskins, and people who just love the music. Everybody is welcome and I hope everyone can get inspired by the atmosphere of incredible tunes.”

“We’ve stayed true to the music we love, playing different genres of furious danceable up-tempo 60s/mod/sharpskin tracks where you just can’t sit still but have to dance. All of us who play at the club collect records and we are there to represent all the amazing artists we play. We’re always finding new and exciting songs to spin at the next event as we evolve with the club.”

“The Loch and Quay has been great to us and has really given us the chance to prove ourselves. And we wouldn’t have gotten these big crowds if it wasn’t for Scot and Sven who joined us when we moved the club there. I think we’ll definitely continue towards a 2-year anniversary! I will never put away my dancing shoes!”
