Dining with strangers may a) be excruciatingly awkward or b) open up completely new worlds through conversation, ideas and gastronomic experiences. For us, the many communal tables at restaurants all over the world have led to many situations of both varieties.

Middag hos mig (dinner at my place), also dubbed “the Airbnb of dining,” has just launched in Sweden, pairing up those who love to throw a dinner party with those who love to attend one. “The idea is simple,” explains founder Magnus Åqvist. “Set a time, a number of guests, a menu and a price. We take care of the rest, sending out invitations to both old and new friends.”
