Hornstull has gained a new cultural gem in the form of Cantina Real & Folkets Park, a recently opened Latin American themed bar and restaurant with a live venue in the basement. The cantina is tucked away on a quiet side street in the more residential part off of Bergsunds strand, creating a real “stammis” feeling. Bright colours and pico de gallo dominate the upstairs area, which opens up to a large patio, making this less-trodden corner of Hornstull buzzing with life. But beside the décor and menu, the place functions as a really good indie bar, blasting Britpop on a Thursday night. To anyone who has frequented El Mundo/Matkultur in SoFo the atmosphere will feel familiar as the two have shared the same owners as well as staff.

The club in the basement is then based on the old Swedish “folkpark”, and parts of the interior are recycled from the newly closed-down folkpark in Uddevalla, creating a retro vibe reminiscent of the nearby Café Copacabana. The laid-back venue has already been a big success, with live bands lining up to play gigs, and club promoters fighting over the available nights. Oh, and did I mentioned the foosball table?

You’ll find Cantina Real at Lindvallsgatan 11 by Hornstull.
