The cheery orchard

The Cherry Orchard

Ranevskaja and her aristocratic family return to their large estate after five years abroad. Their renowned cherry orchard may be in full bloom, but their status and fortune are in decline.

On the brink of ruin Ranevskaja fails to act, and when former peasant Lopachin purchases their estate and the family is forced to leave the home to the sound of the cherry orchard being cut down.

Anton Chekhov’s classic play reflects the social change in Russia at the turn of the 20th Century; the fall of the aristocracy and the rise of the middle class and the problems each faced.

The Cherry Orchard will be playing at Stockholms Stadteater from the 11th of April.
