Bonaparte, the Berlin-based electro/indie punk band headed by Swiss songwriter Tobias Jundt perform at Debaser Slussen tomorrow.

In recent years the bands raucous onstage antics have won them acclaim from the media and fans alike. Although Jundt is the only official permanent member of Bonaparte, he’s been joined – at times – by up to 20 other live performers on stage. Tomorrow, the group’s first gig in Stockholm, promises to be no different. We caught up with Jundt to learn more about life on the road

This is your first gig in Stockholm. Are you excited?

We have never been to Stockholm before. Malmo last night was our first ever show in Sweden. It was a great gig – we had locals mixed with some fans who travelled from Copenhagen to see us play. I’ve heard good things about Stockholm crowds and can’t wait to play there too. We love Swedish music so we are very excited to finally tour in Sweden.

What can people expect?

Audiences cannot be reserved at a Bonaparte gig. The music draws you in and coaxes you to be active, to move and dance about. A Bonaparte gig is a very physical experience. It’s going to be awesome.

You are infamous for tearing down the artificial barrier between the audience and the band. Could we see members of the audience joining you on stage tomorrow?

I like to tour with, not only musicians but performents too. The music and lyrics is still at the core of everything we do. However, using dancers and performers to include the audience in a stage show is important for me.  Bonaparte has always been this big explosion of energy and people usually go really wild at our shows. Maybe they wouldn’t do so if it was just a band playing – it helps that there is visual element with performers pushing themselves physically.

Why do you enjoy being onstage?

The nice thing about a live show and the reason why we do some many gigs is that every moment is unique. If you’re there you’re there. If you missed it – you missed it forever. Every show is a single moment in history. I love that.

Describe your music?

Our music has its own identity. We’re not just a rock band or an electro act or a bunch of punks or pop artists. We borrow elements from all these genres to create something unique. I think our fans identify with our sound, our attitude and our energy. At the gig we will probably do a selection of tracks from all our albums and maybe some remixes too. If they let us we’ll probably be onstage for two hours or so.
