CLOUD NOTHINGS
Perhaps the fatal mathematics of a shotgun in a mouth belonging to the spirit of Kurt Cobain made the gritty vein that ran through Nirvana catapult straight into the heart of Cloud Nothings’ head honcho Dylan Baldi. Or maybe not, but nonetheless in Cloud Nothings we find gruff, squeaks and grace nermalt in a dirty pot that still oozes incredibly good.
In the true spirit of lo-fi, Cloud Nothings documented in a short time more material than what would even be useful. Three albums and several singles in little more than two years is a decent amount in hindsight but more than good behavior come when one understands that it is gold that glitters everywhere.
In April, Cloud Nothings released its’ fourth studio album, Here And Nowhere Else. A disc that has been met by great criticism: 8.7/10 in Pitchfork, 4/5 of The Guardian, 4/6 in GAFFA, 8/10 of a letdown, 8.9/10 in Paste, 8.5/10 in The line of Best fit, 8/10 Drowned in Sound…
HOSPITALITY
The angular, intricate, and intelligent compositions are framed perfectly by the front singer and songwriter Amber Papini’s distinctive voice. Add to Papini’s talent – his writing of sharp lyrics and the band’s rich arrangements which create a new and sophisticated pop sound.
Hospitality was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2007 and managed to generate hype in the media even before they could release an album. Together with producer Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells) the band released to end his self-titled debut album in early 2012. A debut that got good grades from both Pitchfork and Rolling Stones.
This year we will hear even more from Hospitality when in January they released the album Trouble, which immediately got 8/10 in NME and rating of 7/10 of festivalrykten.se. The band is now on an extensive European tour and stopping off at Debaser.
Cloud Nothings & Hospitality are at Debaser Strand on May 14.
